Lance Burkitt: Photographer. I am a photographer, therefore, I am! I am also a thoroughbred Northerner, proudly, and deeply rooted in the rich and complex history of my upbringing in Rotherham. My formative years were shaped by the tumultuous backdrop of the Miners’ Strike, an event that marked a pivotal moment in the North of England. Growing up as a survivor of Thatcher’s 1980s, a period characterized by intense social and economic challenges, further solidified my resilience and nonconformist spirit. These experiences, combined with the powerful influence of strong women in my life, have profoundly impacted my identity and continue to shape who I am, both as an individual and as a photographer.

My work is a direct reflection of my roots and the experiences that have moulded me. As a photographer, I channel this deep-seated resilience into my creative process, capturing images that resonate with the same strength and defiance that have guided me throughout my life. I am incredibly proud of my heritage and the experiences that have defined me, and I carry this pride into every aspect of my work. As a staunch advocate for women, I strive to ensure that my photography and my voice contribute to the ongoing conversation about female empowerment.

The Lance Burkitt Encounter Podcast:

In May 2024 I began a podcast The Lance Burkitt Encounter. The idea of the podcast was for a little bit of therapy for me, and to combat the horrendously poor photography tutorials, advice and information out there, by giving some of my 20 years of experience back to the community. I started this as a bit of a hobby, however as the year has progressed, I have rather enjoyed the therapy of creating and hosting it, and so I have upped the production values a little and it is my plan to have the podcast become something more than a therapeutic hobby.

The primary purpose of this website is to celebrate my photography, promote the podcast and offer private education and training to those interested in improving their photography. Beyond that, it serves as a platform for me to share my life experiences, with the hope that you will not only appreciate my work but also find value in my thoughts, ideas, and the stories that have shaped me. I am based in my hometown of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, where I have a studio at Canklow Meadows Industrial Estate. However, I also have these wonderous inventions called a car and a passport, and I am happy to travel anywhere to work with fabulous people!
